The libertarian magazine called Reason posted an article on their website (reason.com) called "Politicians Make Bootlegging Great Again" talks about how the illegal booze trade, known in the prohibition days as "bootlegging," in the midwest is alive and well as a result from local government interference. The author, J.D. Tuccille explains why this previously extinct crime is back from the dead, which is the State of Illinois' liquor distribution laws that decreases consumer choice and substantially increases the price of liquor. These factors are driving demand out of Illinois state lines into the neighboring states of Indiana and Wisconsin's liquor stores. Not only do these factors disappoint Illinois residents, but these laws are causing a loss of tax revenue for the state. In addition to the government and liquor consumers of Illinois, but liquor businesses and their employees are the ones who suffer the most from these hefty taxes on liquor.
